this morning i took it upon myself to explore san francisco. i went to coffee and studied for class, which included writing a blog post for my anthropology course and starting some readings. next i had a short community building session with the group i am traveling with. people were instructed to share the important parts of their lives that have gotten them to where they stand today, in under ten minutes. it was interesting to see the differences and similarities between myself and others. our group leader spoke about the power of community building, or more specifically, the art of community building. she worked w AmeriCorps and reflected her experience in chicago. specifically on how groups from all across a diverse city such can come to sessions as these and form relationships due to the nature of openness and honesty and trust. i am looking forward to hear other members of the group’s stories. upon all of this, knowing i will have to share mine too makes me think about what is crucial to my story and what can be excluded.

after the session this morning we went to a creperie/bakery/breakfast place and got some lunch. tonight we are going to celebrate the chinese new year and go to the rocky horror picture show and maybe go hiking or to a park tomorrow.
